It’s natural, I think, for people to go through peaks of productivity. I have found that knowing one’s limits is not an admittance of weakness, but a sign of strength and responsibility. How many times do we take on more than we can handle? We agree to so many responsibilities thinking we will have the motivation to do it all, and then find ourselves struggling, stressing and losing all the pleasure out of our commitments. So many times I say, “I can do that!”, only to realize I do not have the time nor energy in my schedule.
It reminds me of a classic surf quote, "Live life one wave at a time". As a surfer, you cannot focus on the wave that just passed or the next wave coming, you only have this one as your focus. I’d like to take a spin on this, to not only focus on the moment, but realize your capabilities for contentment, pleasure and even productivity are heightened when you take on the ocean one wave at a time.
You are amazing as you are, no one can take on the entire ocean. Allow yourself to say no, there is no need to overwhelm yourself because it detracts from your focus on the tasks at hand. Take time out of your day to cherish yourself and all that you do. Take moments during your day to focus on the wave you’re riding, and bring your attention to the moment you’re in.
With Easter weekend coming up, we’re all rushing around to make food and see family that it can be difficult to relax once we’re together. I, myself, have a lot of running around to do. I want to use this upcoming gathering as an opportunity to fully appreciate the people around me, to feel the moment completely, to ride the one wave to the shore.
